Mr Pilgrim, How Was It For You?

Mr Pilgrim, How Was It For You? is a romp through the wild world of the 1970s as Paul Pilgrim starts out on his teaching career in an English comprehensive school. It's a tale of mysogyny, debauchery, corruption and marking.

The world is very different to ours: no one owns a computer, there's no internet, there are no mobile phones and televisions have only three channels. ‘Health and safety’ haven’t been heard of, nor the terms ‘political correctness’ or ‘wokeness’. ‘LGBTQIA’ means nothing to anyone. ‘Women’s Lib’ is still in its infancy.

However, Paul finds two strong women to guide him and he needs their support as he wanders like a relative innocent through the criminality and sexual minefield he hadn't expected to be such intimidating elements in his new life - the local mafia, the police, teachers and school leaders and used car salesmen are all involved.

He'd imagined his priorities would be surviving difficult classes and finding a steady girlfriend. He was wrong.

His housemate, Gerry, sits at the centre of many webs as he juggles his fiancée, his long-time girlfriend, his one-night-stands, his seedy habits and his nefarious and dangerous connections. He expects Paul to help him manage his complex calendar...

The big question: will Joanne and Allison manage to keep Paul out of the mire and out of the police cells?

Mr Pilgrim, How Was It For You? will be published in 2025.
